Dr. J Alexander Smith, D.M.D.

Dr. J. Alexander Smith is a graduate of The Boys’ Latin School in Baltimore. He attended college at The University of Virginia and The University of Missouri-St. Louis. He received his dental degree from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri in 1981. He then entered the U.S. Air Force and served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps until 1984. During this time he completed the General Practice Residency (GPR) Program at Scott AFB Medical Center, Illinois. Dr. Smith received his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) training at The University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the chief resident during his final year of residency and completed his training in 1991. Dr. Smith is board certified and is a Diplomate of The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. J. Alexander Smith joined Dr. W. King Smith in 1994 and has practiced in Bel Air for over 20 years. Dr. Smith is a member, fellow or officer in many professional organizations. These include The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, The Maryland Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, The American Dental Association, The Maryland State Dental Association and The Harford-Cecil Dental Society. He is a past-president of the Harford-Cecil Dental Society and The Maryland Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (MSOMS) and continues to serve on the Executive Board of The MSOMS. Dr. Smith is the president and a founding member of the Harford-Cecil Dental Study Club. Dr. Smith has been a member of the medical staff at of The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center (formally Upper Chesapeake Medical Center) for over 20 years. He is the chief of The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry and has served as the division chief for over 12 years. Dr. Smith is honored to have been selected by his peers as a top oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Baltimore Magazine and is also to be listed in “Top Dentists in America”.

 

Dr. Aaron Vafakos, D.M.D.

Dr. Aaron Vafakos received his Dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1995. Upon completion of his dental degree, he completed a General Practice residency at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland in 1996. He received his certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in 2000 from Woodhill Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York. After completing his training he joined the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice of Mitcherling, Mitcherling & Johnson, Bel Air, Maryland where he practiced until 2006.  At this time he joined Broadway Oral Surgery, Bel Air, Maryland where he continues to practice.  He has been an active member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial sureons since July 2000.  He is also a member in good standing with The American Dental Association, The Mid Atlantic Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeron, The Harford Cecil Dental Implant Study Club, The Maryland Dental Asociation, and The Maryland Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.  Dr Vafakos has been a member of the medical staff at The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for over 15 years.  Dr. Vafakos is well respected by the dental community and his patients.  He was featured in the Aegis newspaper by a patient who was extremely pleased how she was treated by Dr. Vafakos and his staff.  He continues to practice with a high level of concern for his patients.
