Dr. J Alexander Smith, D.M.D. 

Dr. J. Alexander Smith attended college at The University of Virginia and The University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he received a B.A. Magna cum Laude in Chemistry. He was awarded his Doctorate in Dental Medicine at Washington University-St. Louis. After becoming a dentist, he entered the U.S. Air Force and completed a one year General Practice Residency in Dentistry. He served in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps for three years. Dr. Smith received his Oral Surgery training at The University of Maryland Medical Center and The University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Smith is board certified and is a Diplomate of The American Board of Oral Surgery.

Dr. Smith joined Dr. W. King Smith in 1994 and has practiced Oral Surgery in Bel Air for 25 years. Dr. Smith is a member of many professional organizations, including The American Dental Association, The American Association of Oral and Surgeons (AAOMS), The Maryland Society of Oral Surgeons, The Maryland State Dental Association and The Harford-Cecil Dental Society. Dr. Smith has served as president of The Maryland Society of Oral Surgeons and The Harford-Cecil Dental Society.

Dr. Smith is an attending surgeon at The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, in Bel Air. He has been an active member of the medical staff for 25 years and has served as the Chief of the Division of Oral Surgery and Dentistry for 18 years. Dr. Smith has been selected numerous times by Baltimore Magazine as a “top dentist-oral surgeon” in the Baltimore area.

Dr. Smith was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He is happily married and he and his wife, Jerri, have three wonderful children and four adorable grandchildren.


Dr. Aaron Vafakos, D.M.D. 

Dr. Aaron Vafakos received his Dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1995. Upon completion of his dental degree, he completed a General Practice residency at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland in 1996. He received his certificate in Oral surgery in 2000 from Woodhill Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York. After completing his training he joined the Oral Surgery practice of Mitcherling, Mitcherling & Johnson, Bel Air, Maryland where he practiced until 2006.  At this time he joined Broadway Oral Surgery, Bel Air, Maryland where he continues to practice.  He has been an active member of the American Association of Oral sureons since July 2000.  He is also a member in good standing with The American Dental Association, The Mid Atlantic Society of Oral Surgeron, The Harford Cecil Dental Implant Study Club, The Maryland Dental Asociation, and The Maryland Society of Oral Surgeons.  Dr Vafakos has been a member of the medical staff at The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for over 15 years.  Dr. Vafakos is well respected by the dental community and his patients.  He was featured in the Aegis newspaper by a patient who was extremely pleased how she was treated by Dr. Vafakos and his staff.  He continues to practice with a high level of concern for his patients. 


Dr. Sumitra Yalamanchili, D.D.S. 

Dr. Sumitra Yalamanchili is a Bel Air native and grew up here. After high school, she was accepted into a 7 year combined college and dental school program at Muhlenberg College. She graduated a year early from college and then pursued a Masters Degree in Public Health at The George Washington University. Dr. Yalamanchili received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland Dental School in 2004. After graduating from dental school, she completed a one year General Dental Practice Residency at the VA Medical Center in Philadelphia. She then continued her postdoctoral medical education at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center (Paterson, New Jersey), where she completed her Oral Surgery Residency in 2009. As a chief resident, Dr. Yalamanchili was awarded a scholarship for recognition as an outstanding resident in Oral Surgery.

Dr. Yalamanchili is a fully trained and board certified oral surgeon. Her primary interests are in dentoalveolar surgery, third molar extractions, dental implants, including full arch fixed prostheses, and intravenous anesthesia. Dr. Yalamanchili maintains her hospital privileges at GBMC and also operates at Towson Surgical Center.

Dr. Yalamanchili is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Surgery and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral Surgeons. She is a member of many professional organizations including The Midatlantic Society of Oral Surgeons and The Maryland Society of Oral Surgeons, The American Dental Association, The Maryland State Dental Association and The Harford-Cecil Dental Society. She is also an anesthesia evaluator for the Maryland State Dental Board. Dr. Yalamanchili has been recognized in Baltimore magazine as a “Top Doc” in 2016 and 2017.

Dr. Yalamanchili resides in Bel Air with her husband, Raj, and their three children.

    Dr. John Smith was born and raised in Minnesota. He received his degree from the University of Minnesota in 1990. He practiced in Minneapolis for ten years. Dr. Smith entered the Master'Degree program in at the University of Minnesota in 2000. Dr Smith enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and exploring the wilderness of the Boundary Waters. He is a talented musician and avid reader.
